The Possible Collective

greetings from the Symbiocene

It is 2046. Through a feat of incredible human willpower, hope and kinship, we have managed to - slowly but surely - turn the tides on climate change. We live our lives informed by nature and in symbiosis with nature. The wildest things we never thought possible are common place, like fully local food production, a ban on cars in cities and restricted air travel.

What does this place look like for you? What do you see, hear, smell? How do you feel in this place worth fighting for?

This kind of mental travel might sound fantastical, even ridiculous with the enormous challenges we’re facing these days. Amazingly enough, studies have shown that people who imagine green utopia-like futures are more willing to participate in individual and collective action to change the status quo, and more willing to add to social change. Changing our talk of the future and climate change from dread and despair to hope and action, matters.
Even - and especially- if it sounds like a dream.

With the Possible Collective, I’m currently exploring venues for workshops, exhibitions and public art interventions around this theme.

The first workshop Field Report will take place during Plein Public Festival in Rotterdam on May 30. We will visit Rotterdam 20 years into the future, collect specimens, record our findings and bring back some valuable souvenirs.
